Project Objectives

Contributing to the promotion of rural development in Sierra Leone by expanding employment opportunities in order to improve the living conditions of local communities in the district of Bo. To launch a training center for the breeding of fish species.

The project aims to contribute to food security and sovereignty of the population in the District of Bo, through the capacity building and know-how improvement based on the professional experience of Italian cooperatives. The project consists of the following components:

  • Recovery of breeding ponds for fish species ( tilapia ). Launching a training and production aquaculture center;
  • Training and technical capacity building addressed to the Management of the Training Centre;
  • Encouragement of women's participation in local community development through literacy classes. The courses are divided into 6 cycles and represent a significant investment on the cultural point of view insofar, as in many African countries, women in Sierra Leone play an important role in the commercial sale of fishing products and in family management;
  • Start-up of the production cycle and consolidation of knowledge of the sector;
  • Support for the launch of new productive initiatives (extension service) to other targeted groups within the community of Bo District.
