Cooperatives Europe, together with Business Europe, European Small Business Alliance, Eurochambers, Eurocommerce, European Familiy Business and UEAPME have addressed a letter to Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission calling on the Commission to propose an initiative in 2015 dealing with the revision and the strengthening of the Small Business Act.
On 19-20 March Cooperatives Europe attended the latest Small and Medium-sized enterprises (SME) envoy’s meeting in Paris. The event was hosted by the French Ministry for Economy, Industry and Digital Affairs. All Member States, the EU Commission and representatives from intersectoral business organisations were among the participants.
The Greek Euro tragedy has occupied media space for months and years now. At the same time Greek citizens all round the country, be it in Athens, Thessaloniki, Pelopponnese or Epirus, have either lost their job or saw their work income reduced by more than a quarter while public services for health and education have constantly deteriorated.
The EU’s bi-annual multi-stakeholder forum on Corporate Social Responsibility took place at the Commission in Brussels on February 3-4. Cooperatives Europe was invited to the panel on ‘CSR as a driver for innovation, competitiveness & growth’. This panel highlighted some best company practices, but above all discussed recommendations for the EU’s future CSR strategy.
On 11th December the Conference of the Presidents of the European Parliament approved the re-establishment of the Social Economy Intergroup. This decision follows the support shown by more than 80 MEPs from 6 different political groups.
