The 2025 United Nations International Year of Cooperatives (IYC2025) theme  Cooperatives Build a Better World, showcases the enduring global impact cooperatives have everywhere. This theme puts a spotlight on how the cooperative model is an essential solution to overcome many global challenges and continues to play an important role in accelerating efforts to implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

 

A Historic Milestone

Building on the success of the 2012 International Year of Cooperatives, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 2025 as the International Year of Cooperatives through Resolution A/RES/78/289. Adopted on 19 June 2024 under the sponsorship of Mongolia and Kenya, this resolution underscores the crucial role cooperatives play in fostering sustainable development, reducing poverty, and driving inclusive economic growth.

The International Year of Cooperatives 2025 is an unprecedented opportunity to shine a spotlight on the cooperative model. With its theme of building a better world, IYC2025 invites everyone to participate, celebrate, and advocate for the role of cooperatives in shaping a sustainable and inclusive future.

To support the objectives of IYC2025, a dedicated website, 2025.coop, has been launched. This platform serves as a central hub for:

  • Resources: Downloadable guidelines, forms for logo use applications, and links to Resolution A/RES/78/289.
  • Event Mapping: A global event map showcasing IYC-related activities, encouraging cooperatives to submit their events and highlight the worldwide reach of cooperation.
  • Guidelines for National Committees: Information to help cooperatives establish committees or other structures to plan, achieve, and report on their IYC objectives.

Organisations interested in using the IYC2025 logo can submit their applications through the online form available on the website. The logo use is regulated by the UN Committee for the Promotion and Advancement of Cooperatives (COPAC) and the United Nations, ensuring alignment with the year’s vision and objectives.
