Triple Transition

What is the Triple Transition?

The Triple Transition refers to the interconnected shifts in digitalisation, environmental sustainability, and social responsibility that shape how organisations and businesses operate today. This transition is critical as cooperatives adapt to technological advancements, growing environmental concerns, and the demand for more equitable social practices.

How Cooperatives Europe contributes to the Triple Transition

Cooperatives Europe actively supports its members in navigating these transitions by advocating for policies, sharing best practices, and fostering collaboration between cooperatives across Europe.

Why cooperatives are leaders in the Triple Transition

Cooperatives have a unique ability to lead the Triple Transition due to their member-centred, democratic approach. Unlike traditional businesses, cooperatives balance economic, social, and environmental goals, ensuring that transitions to digital, sustainable, and equitable models serve the broader community, not just profit-driven interests.

Cooperatives Europe continues to champion the role of cooperatives as key players in these transitions, working closely with EU institutions, national cooperative federations, and local communities to build a future where sustainability, social justice, and digital inclusivity go hand in hand.

Supporting digital transition

Cooperatives Europe promotes the adoption of digital tools and strategies that enhance cooperative business models. We assist cooperatives in building digital platforms, improving access to technology, and ensuring that digital innovations benefit all members equally. Our focus is on inclusive digitalisation—supporting cooperatives in making sure no one is left behind in this technological shift.

Advocating for sustainability

Cooperatives Europe plays a vital role in guiding members through the environmental transition. We help cooperatives align with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD). Our work involves fostering dialogue between policymakers and cooperatives, ensuring that cooperatives are recognised for their sustainable practices and supported in meeting regulatory requirements.

Promoting social responsibility

The social dimension of the transition is at the heart of the cooperative movement. Cooperatives Europe works to amplify the role of cooperatives in promoting social inclusion, fair employment, and democratic governance. We follow policy files on the improvement of working conditions, empowering communities, and ensuring equitable access to opportunities, we support cooperatives in driving social change.
