2026 CoopsDay Theme Announced

The International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) has announced Cooperatives for a Peaceful World as the theme for the 2026 International Day of Cooperatives (#CoopsDay). This year, the global celebration falls on 4 July and serves as a call for the movement to lead the way in building more inclusive and stable societies.

The theme highlights the unique capacity of the cooperative model to act as a bridge-builder. By fostering dialogue and strengthening social cohesion, cooperatives provide a practical response to a world facing rising economic insecurity and social fragmentation. This focus aligns with the 2019 ICA Declaration on Positive Peace, which asserts that peace is not merely the absence of conflict but the presence of justice, inclusion, and trust.

Global Context and the 2026 Global Conference The 2026 theme creates a direct link to the ICA Global Conference taking place in Panama this September. Titled Building Bridges: Cooperative Contributions for a Peaceful World, the conference will explore how cooperatives create spaces for participation and rebuild connections across societies.

Celebrating a Century of Cooperation CoopsDay has been a staple of the movement since 1923 and received official United Nations recognition in 1995. The 2026 event marks:

  • The 104th International Cooperative Day

  • The 32nd UN International Day of Cooperatives

The theme also supports Sustainable Development Goal 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions). The ICA and COPAC are currently drafting a policy brief to showcase how cooperatives contribute to peacebuilding globally.

Get Involved Cooperatives Europe encourages all members to join the celebration. You can find more information and download the official 2026 logos at the link below. A full communications kit will follow shortly.
