Position Paper: Cooperatives ensure value created in Europe, stays in Europe.

The joint position, co-developed with Cooperatives Europe and CECOP with contributions from REScoop.eu and Euro Coop, states that cooperatives are essential partners in delivering this “Made in EU” vision, steered by the seven cooperative principles, embedding sustainability, resilience and inclusion in all areas of work, combining economic performance with social progress.

We argue that “choosing European” should mean investing in local, sustainable, and value-based production that benefits people and communities. However, “Made in the EU” should go beyond where products are manufactured and also consider who owns and retains the economic and social value they create. In other words, “Made in the EU” must be built on an “Owned by the EU” foundation. This means prioritising models such as cooperatives, which ensure that public investment supports resilient quality jobs, social cohesion, democratic participation, and a more sustainable economy.
